Waiting On Wednesday [#14]: The Game of Love and Death by Martha Brockenbrough

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

My WoW pick today is:

The Game of Love and Death

Release Date: April 28th 2015
Publisher: Arthur A. Levine Books
Genre: YA Historical Fiction, Fantasy
Antony and Cleopatra. Helen of Troy and Paris. Romeo and Juliet. And now . . . Henry and Flora.

For centuries Love and Death have chosen their players. They have set the rules, rolled the dice, and kept close, ready to influence, angling for supremacy. And Death has always won. Always.

Could there ever be one time, one place, one pair whose love would truly tip the balance?

Meet Flora Saudade, an African-American girl who dreams of becoming the next Amelia Earhart by day and sings in the smoky jazz clubs of Seattle by night. Meet Henry Bishop, born a few blocks and a million worlds away, a white boy with his future assured — a wealthy adoptive family in the midst of the Great Depression, a college scholarship, and all the opportunities in the world seemingly available to him.

The players have been chosen. The dice have been rolled. But when human beings make moves of their own, what happens next is anyone’s guess.

Achingly romantic and brilliantly imagined, The Game of Love and Death is a love story you will never forget.

Why I'm Waiting On It

Hello, diverse characters! Heavens know YA needs more diversity and The Game of Love and Death seems abundant of it. And historical fiction is a genre I don't usually read so it's nice to venture outside of my comfort zone once in a while.

What are YOU waiting on this week? Leave your WoW links, lovelies! ^__^

Julie @ Books and Insomnia

Julie is a Filipina blogger who pretends she has insomnia so she can stay up late reading. When she's not buried in books, she can be found watching anime, drinking chocolate-flavored instant coffee, lurking on the internet, daydreaming and talking about herself in third person. She loves purple and anything sweet!

  1. HF isn't one I read a ton in either but I've been picking them up slowly and really found some neat reads. My favorites were set at the Chicago Worlds Fair. So fascinating. Hope you enjoy this one Julie!

    1. Thank you, Anna! I've also read a few historical fiction and I enjoy the genre so far. :)

  2. This has just shot of my TBR pile! I can't wait until this one comes out. Thanks for pointing me in this direction.

Thanks for stopping by my WOW the other day!

    1. You're welcome! I'm so excited for this one, too! :)
