Seventeen-year-old Cassie Hobbes has a gift for profiling people. Her talent has landed her a spot in an elite FBI program for teens with innate crime-solving abilities, and into some harrowing situations. After barely escaping a confrontation with an unbalanced killer obsessed with her mother’s murder, Cassie hopes she and the rest of the team can stick to solving cold cases from a distance. But when victims of a brutal new serial killer start turning up, the Naturals are pulled into an active case that strikes too close to home: the killer is a perfect copycat of Dean’s incarcerated father—a man he’d do anything to forget. Forced deeper into a murderer’s psyche than ever before, will the Naturals be able to outsmart the enigmatic killer’s brutal mind games before this copycat twists them into his web for good? With her trademark wit, brilliant plotting, and twists that no one will see coming, Jennifer Lynn Barnes will keep readers on the edge of their seats (and looking over their shoulders) as they race through the pages of this thrilling novel.

We already met Cassie and the gang from the first book, The Naturals. We know their skills and what they can do. We saw them help solve a case and almost died in the process. In this sequel, Killer Instinct, the stakes are even higher and deadlier.
Killer Instinct focuses more on Dean and his past. How it is intertwined with the murder case the FBI is handling creates a very thrilling mystery that hooked me from page one. It was intriguing and a real page-turner. I loved that it really made my heart beat so fast with excitement and dread. It's not creepy, which is just right because it is not a horror story. But it will keep you on the edge of your seats and holding your breath.
The love angle in the story is also settled as Cassie finally chose between Dean and Michael. I think it's a good match because they have a lot of common. I just think the story lacks in the romance and swoon department, but I don't mind because it's not a romance novel to begin with.
I loved that it kept me guessing up until the end. The twists are really surprising. Just when you thought you figured it out, the author throws something at you that will completely blow your mind. It was amazing how a story can have layers and layers like that. Killer Instinct was simply exceptional.
